The Sidtenga Appeal was founded in 1997 by Tim Horley and Emmanuel Nikiema. It operates in the village of Sidtenga, some 80 km south of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Burkina Faso is a small landlocked country north of Ghana and south of the Sahara and is classed by the United Nations as one of the poorest countries of Africa.
The village has a population of about 1,200 people. The principal local activity is subsistence agriculture, though many people travel away to work in local towns and even in the city.
The main objectives of the Appeal are :
* to alleviate poverty among the population of Sidtenga.
* to enable that population to create durable community structures and activities.
* to work closely with elected committees of villagers in achieving this development.
Within these web pages we describe the achievements of the Appeal to date, and outline our proposals for further development. We hope you will find this interesting, and that you will be able to contribute.
